How long they worked, damned if I know. For one of the days, they hooked them up in the van through the stereo speakers and blasted them across a parking lot. They were certainly loud, if nothing else.

It didn’t fit in the story, but my first day was 11 hours long. We came back as the sun was hitting the horizon. In a day prior to cell phones, it made my parents very concerned. They thought I was nuts for going back, but it was such an odd experience, I couldn’t resist.

I worked for about two weeks for a guy who did a shady used car purchase dealio — we called people who listed their cars and offered to buy ‘em for rock bottom prices immediately. Not quite as scammy as your gig, though.
